South Carolina’s premiere golf courses, family-friendly beaches, and historic districts are some of what makes this state special.

There are hundreds of golf courses throughout the state, some designed by golf greats like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Davis Love III, and they’re the reason that many of the sport’s enthusiasts love to travel to South Carolina.

Myrtle Beach, with 60 miles of inviting sandy beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, is another great destination. High-rises, tourist attractions, beachside shops, and great restaurants make Myrtle Beach a favorite for tourists. Also, did you know that Myrtle Beach is the birthplace of Sports Illustrated magazine, which was first published in 1954? Magazine magnate Henry Luce, who also published Life, Time, and Fortune, came up with the idea for the sports magazine.

South Carolina is steeped in history and there are many historic districts throughout the state that will take you back in time. The state is perhaps most notably known as being the first state to secede from the Union and join the Confederacy. The Civil War began shortly thereafter with the Battle of Fort Sumter at Charleston Harbor. Prior to the Civil War, South Carolina was one of 13 colonies that rejected Britain’s rule in the American Revolution.

Turning from history to more modern times, today South Carolina is a top manufacturing state (pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and motor vehicle parts top the list). Some of the major companies that operate out of South Carolina include Michelin, Robert Bosch, Kraft Heinz Food Company, and Denny's.

Celebrities born in South Carolina include actress Viola Davis, singer and songwriter James Brown, “Wheel of Fortune” host Vanna White, and NBA star Kevin Garnett. And many blockbuster movies have been filmed in South Carolina, including “The Notebook,” “Full Metal Jacket,” and “Swamp Thing.”

Finally, if aliens ever do land on Earth, they have a welcome center (well, sort of). It’s actually more of a roadside attraction and you can find it in Bowman, South Carolina. A local man named Jody Pendarvis built a UFO-shaped building in his yard to welcome beings from outer space. There's also a smaller saucer-shaped craft on top of the building that Jody plans to ride in when alien technology lifts him up to the mothership.

How to Choose the Right Map

Start with the place or subject that matters, then choose the artwork, format, and size that best fit your space and story.

Choose a hometown, favorite destination, family location, military base, park, lake, railroad, or other place that carries a personal connection.

Try searching by a city, county, state, landmark, year, or specific place name.

Look closely at the map year, geographic coverage, orientation, labels, landmarks, and overall visual style. Different maps of the same place can tell very different stories.

Use the product images and zoom tools to inspect streets, names, boundaries, and historic features.

Select an unframed print for flexibility, a ready-to-hang solid wood frame for a finished presentation, or a wrapped canvas for a clean gallery-style appearance.

Framed prints include protective plexiglass and arrive ready to hang.

Consider the wall, furniture, viewing distance, and amount of visual impact you want. Larger maps make striking focal points, while smaller sizes work well in offices, studies, entryways, and grouped displays.

Measure the available wall area before choosing your final print size.
