Minnesota Maps
Did you know that in Minnesota about half of the population lives in the Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis?
Old maps of Minnesota, which became a state in 1858, show how these two cities grew over time. Minneapolis would eventually become known for its modern high-rises and St. Paul, the state’s capital, would retain more of its history.
Our vintage map archives include many maps of the Twin Cities, as well as a collection that highlights nearly all counties in the state including Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Anoka, Washington, St. Louis, Stearns, Olmsted, Scott, and Wright.
The most requested maps are typically for the cities of Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, Bloomington, Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Plymouth, Maple Grove, Woodbury, and St. Cloud.

Minnesota is known as the 'Land of 10,000 Lakes,' which is a bit of an understatement because the state actually has 11,842 lakes that are more than 10 acres in size.
Lake Superior is both the largest and deepest lake in Minnesota. Over 200 rivers feed into Lake Superior, which has a surface area of over 31,700 square miles (about the size of the state of South Carolina).
Major industries in Minnesota include agriculture, manufacturing, livestock (the state is the largest producer in the U.S. of farm-raised turkeys), mining of iron ore, and services such as healthcare. Some of the top companies headquartered in the state are Best Buy, General Mills, Hormel, Land O' Lakes, Target, and US Bancorp.
Minnesota is also home to the well-known, top-ranked Mayo Clinic. The hospital is known for its vast team of specialists who treat some of the most difficult cases.
Also in health, the world’s first successful open-heart operation was performed at the University of Minnesota on September 2, 1952. A five-year-old girl suffering from a heart defect was the patient. Following the surgery, the head surgeon, Dr. C. Walton Lillehei, became known as the 'Father of Open-Heart Surgery.'
And finally, Bloomington, Minnesota is home to the largest mall in the United States. It is the seventh-largest mall in the entire world.
