Finland is a Nordic country located in Northern Europe, bordered by both Sweden, Norway, and Russia. The capital and largest city is Helsinki, which creates a large metropolitan area with the cities of Espoo, Kauniainen, and Vantaa. Covering a total land area of 338,455 square kilometers (130,678 square miles), Finland is home to around 5.5 million inhabitants. Finland is known for being one of the world’s most developed countries, with a strong economic state, great quality of life standards, best human development, and also ranking first on the World Happiness Report. Currently, the country is considered a parliamentary republic. The current president is Sauli NiinistΓΆ, while the prime minister is Sanna Marin.

Finland is known to be a country primarily made up of the boreal forest biome. This fact holds up as there are over 180,000 recorded lakes within the country. The largest lake is Saimaa, with an area of 1,147 square kilometers (or 443 square miles). This makes the lake the fourth-largest in all of Europe. Finland is also covered with forests. In fact, 78% of the total land area is forest. This makes Finland the largest producer of wood in Europe, and is among the largest producers in the world. These trees are mainly made up of birch, hazel, aspen, maple, elm, linden and alder. There are sixty diverse mammalian species existing in Finland, as well as 248 breeding bird species, over 70 fish species, along with 11 reptile and frog species. Some of the mammals that can be found in Finland are gray wolves, wolverines, elk, and brown bears. Brown bears are seen as symbols in Finland, and are fittingly titled the β€œking of the forest”. There are also 24,000 species of insects found within Finland, with tribes of beetles being the most common. Finland has a high population of seabirds, such as the black-backed gull and the arctic tern. Because Finland is such a northern country, a great majority of its bird population migrates to the south.

Finland is home to one of the oldest populations in the world, with the median age of the country being 42.6 years old. Along with this, the country has a fertility rate of 1.49 children per woman, which is actually one of the lowest rates in the world. When it comes to the ethnic background of the population, 91.54% of the population is pure Finnish, making the country of Finland very close to being classified as an β€œethnic state”.

Finland is a country with numerous natural resources. Because of these resources, Finland has been able to put them towards their economy relying on exports. The largest industries within Finland are electronics, machinery, vehicles, along with other engineered metal products. The forest industry and chemical industry also made up a key portion of these numerous industries. In 2021, Finland was ranked as the world’s 7th most innovative country, according to the Global Innovation Index. Some of the greatest exports of Finland are Kaolin Coated Paper, Cars, Sawn Wood, and Refueled Petroleum.

How to Choose the Right Map

Start with the place or subject that matters, then choose the artwork, format, and size that best fit your space and story.

Choose a hometown, favorite destination, family location, military base, park, lake, railroad, or other place that carries a personal connection.

Try searching by a city, county, state, landmark, year, or specific place name.

Look closely at the map year, geographic coverage, orientation, labels, landmarks, and overall visual style. Different maps of the same place can tell very different stories.

Use the product images and zoom tools to inspect streets, names, boundaries, and historic features.

Select an unframed print for flexibility, a ready-to-hang solid wood frame for a finished presentation, or a wrapped canvas for a clean gallery-style appearance.

Framed prints include protective plexiglass and arrive ready to hang.

Consider the wall, furniture, viewing distance, and amount of visual impact you want. Larger maps make striking focal points, while smaller sizes work well in offices, studies, entryways, and grouped displays.

Measure the available wall area before choosing your final print size.
