Vietnam is a country located on the northernmost edge within Southeast Asia. The country borders China, Laos, and Cambodia. Vietnam spans an area of 311,699 square kilometers, or 120,348 square miles. The country is home to a total population of 97 million, which makes Vietnam the 15th most populated country in the world. The capital city is Hanoi, yet the largest city is Ho Chi Minh City. Currently one of two communist nations in Southeast Asia, the current prime minister of Vietnam is Phan Minh Chinh.
The land of Vietnam is 40% covered by mountains, and 42% covered by different tropical forests. Vietnam’s highest point is located in the northern region of the country, which stands at an altitude of 3,143 meters, or 10,312 feet high. The country is home to what is believed to be the largest cave passage in the world, which is the Hang Sơn Đoòng Cave. Ba Bể Lake and the Mekong River are both the largest lake and river within the country. The climate of Vietnam varies by region due to the variety in topography, however most of it belongs within tropical monsoon, savannah, and rainforest.
